Ken Perkin, Customer Service Manager, recently returned from a 10-day trip to Rosarito, Mexico. Located 13 miles south of Tijuana, Rosarito has a population of about 73,000 people with a local economy focused on ranching and farming, as well as a growing number of factory jobs brought in by foreign governments.
Rosarito’s citizens can be divided into two sections: one is very poor, with some families making just $80 to $120 per month. The other side of the city reflects a more mainstream American way of life, with restaurants and chain stores such as Office Depot and Walmart. Ken’s group worked in the most economically disadvantaged part of the city where most families barely make ends meet.
